Appeal of the Vicariate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate in the USA and Canada o the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky of illegal withdrawal of state registration of the Kyiv Patriarchate
Dear Mr. President!
On the thirtieth year of independence of our country, we Ukrainian, still have to fight for their mental identity, getting rid of the colonial past, which was rudiments of arbitrary power and lack of justice. That is why we remind you once again of the insignificant decision of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to deregister the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate and, for more than two years, the epic in Ukrainian courts, where we try to prove the illegality of state institutions against the Kyiv Patriarchate.
At a time when Ukraine is hard to find justice, the United States, wanting to solve the Gordian knot, April 30, 2021 officially registered statute Vicariate Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada. This event shows that the United States de facto recognizes the illegality of the liquidation of the Kyiv Patriarchate in Ukraine.
On behalf of the Vicariate Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the United States and Canada and 20 million Ukrainian temporarily or permanently residing outside Ukraine, we again emphasize that the elimination of Ukrainian Orthodox Church is unlawful because it means a violation of religious freedom million citizens of Ukraine.
We appeal to you, Mr. President, to ensure the religious rights and freedoms of believers of the Kyiv Patriarchate, and not to allow government officials of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to violate the laws of Ukraine and, thus, damage Ukraine's image in the world. Please help return the state registration of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, which it had until January 30, 2019.
IIf Ukrainian officials continue to ignore our legal demand , we, the faithful of the Kyiv Patriarchate in the United States, will begin collecting signatures on a statement to the US Congress on religious persecution in Ukraine. The result of such an appeal may be the Act on Religious Persecution in Ukraine and enrollment in countries with a totalitarian system of government. We believe that such negative conclusions of the congressmen can significantly lower Ukraine's rating on the world map.
We emphasize that our Church is a strong spiritual foundation of independent Ukraine. Our Church proclaims the truth everywhere. The struggle for an independent Ukrainian Church continues.
On behalf of the clergy and the faithful,
Secretary of the Vicariate of the UOC-Kyiv Patriarchate in the USA and Canada
Archpriest Bohdan Zhoba
